In November, as winter approaches, an exhibition brings together three young women artists—Choi Min-hye, Lee Ye-lin, and Lim Su-jin—who work in distinct visual languages to depict landscapes of emotion and time. Centered on scenes shaped by snow (雪), the eye (目), and the passage of time, the exhibition invites viewers to experience layers of emotion slowly condensed within time, much like snow quietly accumulating. From Choi Min-hye, who embodies mythic imagination in painting as an “image hunter,” to Lee Ye-lin, who renders emotions compressed within a blue-hued gaze, and Lim Su-jin, who inscribes warm memories into snow-covered landscapes, the works of these three artists—each with a unique sensibility—unfold within a shared space as resonant waves of emotion and time, meeting the viewer’s own memories. Between snow (雪) and the eye (目), we invite you to discover your own shimmering November.

“Study × PLAS : Asia Art Fair” was organized to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea, with the aim of fostering active exchange among the art markets of Japan, Korea, and Asia.
The fair brings together approximately 80 galleries and organizations from eight regions across Asia under “Study × PLAS : Galleries,” alongside collaborative projects with participating artists and diverse institutions presented as “Study × PLAS : Selections.” Symposia and a creative business contest will also be held concurrently.

At this fair, our gallery will present a project that examines how character-based, two-dimensional expressions in painting are received across the sea in neighboring countries.
We are honored to welcome art critic Yuki Konno—who is deeply versed in both Korean contemporary art and Japanese character-oriented painting—as a guest, offering insights into the works through the lens of their historical and cultural contexts.

Gallery ERD Seoul presents the three-person exhibition 《Flipped Fantasia》 featuring Kim Hwi-dong, Lee Ye-lin, and Jung Ji-yoon, running from Thursday, March 20 to Saturday, April 19, 2025.
This exhibition showcases two-dimensional works in which each artist infuses their own fantastical motifs with shades of blue. Drawing from materials collected from digital imagery, the artists reconstruct these sources by layering them with their personal experiences and reflections, bringing fictional figures and imagined worlds into physical space. Here, blue functions as more than a color—it becomes a medium that bridges the virtual and the real, connecting diverse practices into a unified visual flow. Through this process, the artists develop their own visual languages and propose a new realm where reality and fantasy coexist.

Since childhood, I’ve been naturally drawn to comics and animation, which have become more than just a source of simple enjoyment – they serve as a window to view the world and a wellspring of imagination. Unreal yet somehow familiar scenes from these fantastical worlds stimulated my sensitivity and imagination, serving as a medium through which I could project myself and explore emotions. These experiences became the starting point of my work, and now I continue creating pieces centered around enigmatic, undefined girls.
The girls I depict do not represent specific individuals. They remain familiar yet anonymous beings, intentionally leaving space for viewers to project their own memories and emotions. At the same time, these girls reflect the complex emotions I’ve experienced in my inner life. Through their expressions, gazes, and atmospheres,
they convey intricate emotions that words fail to capture, serving as a proxy for the questions I ask.
My work embodies subtle differences and changes. Through moments where reality and fantasy, familiarity and unfamiliarity, brightness and darkness intersect and illuminate one another, I seek to explore the contradictions of human nature and life. Change serves as a central motif in my art. The perpetual cycles of change in life hold both novelty and loss, beginnings and endings. The emotions and uncertainties revealed in these processes lie at the core of my paintings.
Although my work originates from personal experiences and memories, it transcends being a mere account of myself. By combining the vibrancy of color on canvas with the creative freedom of digital media, I create harmony and transformation, capturing the emotions, wounds, hope, and possibilities inherent in life.
The girls I paint are beings that possess their own light, even within a seemingly empty and desolate world disconnected from reality. They transcend mere beauty, acting as a medium for viewers to recall their own experiences and memories, empowering them to complete their personal narratives.
어릴 적부터 자연스럽게 접한 만화와 애니메이션은 단순한 재미를 넘어, 세상을 바라보는 창이자 상상의 원천이 되었다. 비현실적이지만 어딘가 익숙한 환상의 장면들은 내 감수성과 상상력을 자극하며, 나를 투영하고 감정을 탐구하는 매개체로 자리 잡았다. 이러한 경험은 내 작업의 출발점이 되었고, 지금은 주로 알 수 없는 듯한 소녀들을 그리는 작업을 이어오고 있다.

창작의 길을 묵묵히 걸어온 20명의 작가들이 한 해를 마무리하며 이곳에 모였다. 각자의 이야기가 한 공간에 스며들고, 예술로 엮어낸 따뜻한 마음이 서로를 이어주는 연대가 되길 바란다. 이 순간이 당신에게도 의미 있는 시간으로 남기를 바란다. 동료 예술가로서 한 해를 예술가로서 무사히 살아낸 것에 대한 위로와 축하, 격려를 나누고, 다가올 다음 해에도 여전히 예술가로 살아내기 위한 단단한 마음을 서로에게 더하고자 20명의 작가가 한자리에 모였다. 나아가 전시 수익금의 기부를 통해 따스한 연대의 마음을 세상과 함께 나누고자 한다.

Perfect Persona Yang Daewon & Lee Yerin Duo Exhibition Overview A sharply defined and perfectly constructed modern persona — confronting the complete, authentic self beneath the mask
Persona — derived from the Latin word for "mask," in psychology it refers to the self as perceived by others, or the personality projected by the individual in accordance with social roles, status, and values.
In contemporary society, humans seem to board a prescribed way of living, adhering to norms established through mutual compromise. A newborn child is merely a being driven by pure instinct, yet as they grow and engage in what we call "social life," they form another personality that conceals their true nature. Artists Yang Daewon and Lee Yerin explore the countless emotions—whether arising from the self or provoked by others—that emerge through social networks. These diverse emotions may retain their essence or become distorted by societal demands, splintering into multiple selves and donning various masks.
Both artists employ iconic characters to painterly express the instincts and fleeting emotions captured beneath the persona.

Yang Daewon introduces his signature character "Donggeulin" (the round one), symbolizing modern individuals who live while wearing various personas. Through this protagonist—who faithfully pursues instincts while chasing love, vanity, ambition, and other human desires—he offers a theatrical portrayal of "human desire" with a twist. Inspired by the dramatic mask-changing of Chinese Bian Lian (face-changing opera), Donggeulin appears to hide direct emotions or moods behind a disguise. Yet the composition of the canvas, symbolic objects, and bold gestures ingeniously and wittily weave in complex feelings. Yang Daewon turns the persona "Donggeulin"—a self-portrait that simultaneously objectifies others—into a device for staging a visual spectacle of primal human emotions such as rebellion against power and the desire for wealth.
Lee Yerin projects her own experiences, past and present, into her works, capturing momentary emotions through the "gaze of a girl." Unlike the distinct, cartoonish characters often seen in typical pop art, the girls drawn by Lee Yerin remain deliberately featureless, leaving open space for the viewer to imagine and reflect. In her new works for this exhibition, the artist delves into her contemplation of "perfection." Imperfect modern humans are constantly trapped in the obsession that they must always be perfect, endlessly organizing, refining, and building yet another identity. Lee Yerin focuses on the rough, imperfect lines that inevitably remain in the process of creation—intentionally breaking the compulsive mask of perfection. Whether a work has visible lines or appears seamless, what counts as "complete" depends on the viewer's perspective; she invites expansive thinking on this matter. The girls in her paintings offer viewers moments to encounter their authentic, unmasked selves.

현대 사회 속 인간은 상호타협을 통해 정립된 규범을 지키며 규정된 삶의 방식에 탑승해 나아가는 듯 하다. 갓 태어난 아이는 본능만을 지닌 일개 생명체에 불과했지만, 그러한아이는 인간으로서 성장하고 사회생활로 정의되는 실상을 겪으며 본성을 숨긴 또 다른 인격체를 형성하게 된다. 양대원, 이예린 두 작가는 사회적 관계망을 통해 두드러지는나로 비롯될 수도, 타인으로부터 기인할 수도 있는 무수히 많은 감정들을 이야기 한다. 다양한 감정들은 그 본질을 유지할 수도, 사회적 요구로 인해 변질되어 여러 자아들로분화되며 가면을 덧입기도 한다.

양대원 작가는 ‘동글인’이라는 캐릭터를 등장시켜 각개의 페르소나를 입힌 채 살아가는 현대인들의 모습을 상징적으로 그려낸다. 인간의 감정에 관한 해설을 위해 감정의주체로서 사랑과 허영, 야망 등을 쫓아가며 본능에도 충실한 주인공 동글인을 통해 ‘인간의 욕망＇을 비틀어 연극적 표현을 화면에 선사한다. 마치 중국 변검의 가면에서 영감을받은 동글인의 용모는 직접적인 감정이나 기분을 숨긴 채 변장하고 있는 듯 하지만, 화면의 구도 및 상징적 매개체, 그리고 다양한 제스처는 복합적인 감정들을 과감하면서도재치 있게 녹여낸다. 양대원 작가는 권력에 대한 반발 & 부에 관한 욕망 등 인간 근원적인 감정들을 자화상인 동시에 타자화 시킬 수 있는 페르소나 ‘동글인’ 에게 작품으로써시각적 쇼를 하게끔 장치화 한다.
이예린 작가는 과거와 현재의 경험들과 관심사들을 바탕으로 자신을 투영해 순간의 감정을 ‘소녀의 시선＇으로 담는다. 일반적인 팝아트에서 자주 보이는 만화적 캐릭터와는달리, 이예린 작가가 그려나가는 소녀에게는 어떠한 특성이 두드러지지 않은 채 관객으로 하여금 상상하고 생각할 공백을 남겨두는 듯 하다. 이번 신작을 통해 작가의 ‘완벽’에관한 고찰을 엿볼 수 있다. 현시점의 불완전한 우리 인간들은 항상 완벽해야만 하는 강박관념에 사로잡힌 채 매 시간 정돈하고 다듬으며 또 다른 아이덴티티를 다져간다. 이예린작가는 그런 강박적 가면을 깨부수고자 작품의 새로운 시도와 과정에 있어 남겨지는 완벽과는 거리감 있는 러프한 선들에 집중한다. 선이 있는 작품도 선이 없는 작품도 완성에가까운 결과인지는 바라보는 시각에 따라 다를 것 이라는 확장적 사고를 부여하며 작품 속 소녀들은 페르소나를 내려둔 온전한 자아를 마주할 수 있는 순간을 제공한다.
